Yarraville railway station

Yarraville is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Yarraville, on the Werribee and Williamstown railway lines. Yarraville is classed as a Host Station and is in Metcard Zone 1.

Yarraville is located at the northern end of the Anderson Street level crossing, which provides access to the station.

The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large red brick building, while platform 2 has a smaller weatherboard building. A large Metcard vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. Myki ticket vending machines are located at the entrances to platform 1 and platform 2. A disused signal box is located at the Werribee/Williamstown end of the station, whilst a number of disused sidings are located to the east of platform 2.

History

Yarraville station opened on 20 November 1871 as South Footscray.^[1] It was opened to goods in 1883, the yard being extended in 1912 at the Melbourne end. The overpass at Somerville Road was opened in 1970 and the goods yard removed in 1991. Interlocked crossing gates remained at the Anderson Street level crossing until 1995, until fixed away from the road and replaced by boom gates. The signal box was closed in 1996, and in 1997 the pedestrian subway on the station side of Anderson Street was replaced by pedestrian gates.
